Meitheal Mara
At the Heart of Cork Harbour

This documentary series explores the history of the currach as a sea worthy vessel in Cork and other regional areas of Ireland and demonstrates how the currach has evolved to suit contemporary living.

The documentary series aims to explore how Meitheal Mara interacts with the community of Cork City and County in creating awareness of the natural environment and habitat that surrounds the River Lee and how this can be utilised as a great resource for everyone in the community.

The programme also highlights that Meitheal Mara uses traditional Irish boat building techniques to promote literacy & other skills amongst early school leavers, people in recovery and people with disabilities thus bring to life an ensemble of traditional and contemporary culture.
